JOHN McCarthy hit a fine unbeaten half century as Hatfield 2nds suffered a three-wicket defeat to Redbourn 2nds on Saturday.

The result sees Hatfield perched just above the relegation places in Division Seven of the Saracens Herts Cricket League.

Hatfield posted a score of 145-8 with John McCarthy carrying his bat with a vigilant 66 not out.

He received little support with only Andy Ashley-Smith (24) hitting double figures.

Redbourn lost a couple of early wickets in reply, but it was not until Alan Jakes entered the attack that Hatfield really threatened.

His 4-40 was well earned. However, Redbourn reached the required runs with the loss of seven wickets.
