HERTFORDSHIRE Mavericks were beaten 47-38 by Manchester Thunder last night (Thursday) in the Netball Superleague to end their hopes of competing for a place in the grand final.

Thunder will now go on to play in the play-off semi-final alongside Team Bath, Celtic Dragons and Surrey Storm.

The winners of the two semi-finals will meet in the grand final on Saturday, May 25 at the Worcester Arena where the 2013 champions will be crowned.

Mavericks’ season has now come to an end.

It was a term used by coach Karen Atkinson for introducing some new players and giving youth a chance, that will hopefully benefit the team next season.

After the game, Atkinson Tweeted: “Tonight was not the result we wanted but I am proud of the players for stepping up & delivering a much better performance.”
