MAVERICKS netball players and staff left the warmth of their Hatfield Superleague court behind to raise money for charity with a festive Santa run.

Having won a match against Team Northumbria at the University of Hertfordshire the previous day, several players and support staff, plus their families, put on a different kind of kit.

Santa outfits were worn and used in aid of The Pasque Charity Santa Run.

The Pasque Charity provides free specialist care for people, young and old, diagnosed with a life-limiting illness.

Providing the level of care needs annual costs around £5million.

Each Mavericks player took on the responsibility of raising their funds to donate towards this charity.

Unfortunately some of the team had a Premier club game but the remainder of the group met in Luton at Wardown Park to run the 5km course.

Those involved were first-team players Stef Bello, Camilla Buchanan, Hazel Schofield, Naida Hutchinson and captain Karen Atkinson.

The support personnel were Gloria and Jim Keech with their daughter Emma, head coach Kendra Slawinski and her 10-year-old son Ben.

Director of coaching Maggie Jackson also took part as did her two children Kari, 17, and Tom aged 15.

Leading from the front was Tom, who came fourth, closely by Ben, Stef, Hazel and Naida.

Soon appearing at the finish line was Jim, Kari and Kendra.

Then came Karen and Maggie, who were discussing tactics and strategies for the next match and not far behind was Gloria.

It was a great morning and thoroughly enjoyed by all with a good amount of money raised by Mavericks team and staff.

Mavericks played Team Bath away in the Superleague on Monday night.
