The athletes were faced with a tough course at the event held at Hillingdon House Farm, Uxbridge.

Despite being a mild and sunny day, the conditions underfoot made for very challenging races.

The courses were undulating and in several parts were under water and rapidly turned into a quagmire.

There were many pleasing performances from the club's athletes.

The highest placed Herts Phoenix competitor was Lizzie Hall, who finished in a fine 10th place in the senior women's 8,000m race.

She clocked 33 minutes 47 seconds to just make the top 10 of the 311 finishers.

Behind her in 42nd place was club-mate Lizzie Brathwaite in a time of 36 mins 26 secs.

Other Herts Phoenix members who completed the courses included: Under-13 Boys' 3,000 metres: 41st Liam Dee 12 mins 58 secs; 63rd Nicholas Doyle 13 mins 09 secs; 67th Jake Barraclough 13 mins 12 secs.

Under-15 Boys' 4,500m: 185th Daniel Barcroft 18 mins 13 secs; Under-17 Men: 48th Tom Gough 22 mins 43 secs; 100th David Wilson 24 mins 14 secs.

Senior Men 15,000 metres: 94th Bryn Reynolds 59 mins 08 secs; 430th Peter Fitzpatrick 1 hour 14 mins 04 secs; 540th Richard Bloom 1 hr 19 mins 09 secs.

Under-13 Girls' 3,000m: 63rd Lizzie Parry 14 mins 28 secs; 109th Megan Breen 15 mins 15 secs; 207th Georgia Bennett 17 mins 55 secs.

Under-15 Girls' 4,000m: 66th Lizzie Bird 16 mins 52 secs; 88th Ella Lloyd 17 mins 13 secs.
