WELWYN Garden City golfer Tom Lewis is preparing for the third round of the Australian Open Championship after making the cut at the The Lakes Club in Sydney earlier today (Friday).

The 19-year-old English amateur shot a second round 72 to hold par, he was tied 27th on the leaderboard at the end of the day.

Lewis started well in the event on Thursday, with a 2 under par 70 from the first round to leave him 2 under overall.

Leading the way is Aussie Geoff Ogilvy on 11 under after rounds of 68 and 65.

While Lewis made the cut American golfing greats Fred Couples and John Daly failed to do so.

Saturday will see the third round take place with Lewis alongside Australian Craig Parry.
