HATFIELD runner Laura Cowley won the Finchley 20 mile road race as she continues her preparation for next month's London Marathon.

The Herts Phoenix athlete was first lady home over the four lap course, with each circuit being five miles long.

She clocked a fast time of 2 hours 9 minutes and 17 seconds at the event earlier this month.

Laura was said to be happy with her winning time over that distance as it relates to just under 6.30 minute miling.

Over the full 26.2 mile distance that would be close to her London Marathon personal best.

Taking into account that the capital's competition is a much flatter course, the potential is there to achieve a new PB this year.

With less than a month before the race around the city, the former Stanborough School pupil is keeping her fingers crossed that training continues to go well.

Laura will also be hoping she can stay injury free before the London Marathon on April 13 and improve on her 20th place in the elite women's race last year.
