SOUTH Herts returned to their early season form with a resounding 6-0 victory over Broxbourne on Saturday.

Sarah Jowett opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes for the Potters Bar-based team, flicking in a Sue Richardson free hit.

It was 2-0 when Cate Jackson smashed a cross-shot across the D, which Jowett turned past the unsighted keeper.

Herts settled into some neat attacking hockey, working the ball around the opposition and creating a number of chances.

South Herts were largely untroubled in defence with Ruth Spencer keeping the dangerous Broxbourne centre forward at bay with her wily positional play.

As the half drew to a close, Jowett completed her hat-trick.

Caroline Stanners was fouled as she made another jinking run through the defence, allowing Richardson to find Jowett with another free hit which she knocked in reverse stick.

Herts took their time to get going in the second half.

Having smashed a shot against the post, Lucy Edwards picked the ball up on the left and squared to Caroline Partridge.

She strode up from the back and creamed the ball into the corner from the top of the area.

The momentum was now back with Herts and a fifth goal quickly followed when Jackson's persistence saw her nudge the ball over the line after a goalmouth scramble.

A fine afternoon for Herts was finished off by Anna Walker, whose sweetly struck shot from a penalty corner looped up over the keeper via a deflection and dropped just under the crossbar.

Seven days earlier South Herts had beaten county rivals St Albans 3-0 in a game which the home goalkeeper never touched the ball.

A strong display saw South Herts run out easy winners against a youthful Saints side.

Herts attacked straight from the whistle and hit the post within the first five minutes, followed by two chances that went narrowly wide.

The scoring was opened by Sarah Jowett, who nicked the ball away as the keeper came to clear a cross and then dived to tap the ball over the line.

The defenders were largely untroubled in the first half, while the midfield took every opportunity to push forward with Cate Jackson and Anna Walker firing a number of crosses in for the South Herts attackers.

The Potters Bar side added a deserved second when Sue Richardson hit a pinpoint free hit to an unmarked Caroline Partridge.

Her glancing shot flew past the keeper, much to Caroline's obvious delight.

The second half continued in much the same vein with Herts seeing a number of further chances saved by the Saints keeper.

Having failed to convert countless penalty corners, Herts switched to let Walker take the shot from the top of the D.

Her fiercely struck effort was knocked past the keeper by Jowett in her usual poaching role to give Herts a third goal.

The scoreline should have been considerably more but the Herts team took comfort from a clean sheet, with keeper Mo Gough failing to touch the ball once in the entire game.

This weekend South Herts are in league action away at top of the table Blueharts.
