SUNHIL Joshi put in a man-of-the-match performance as WGC 3rds beat their Broxbourne opponents by 22 runs in a close-fought game.

Joshi smashed a spectacular 83 not out, as well as finishing with bowling figures of 3-48, as he guided the home side to victory on Saturday.

He hit eight sixes and six fours in 10 overs of batting to turn a mediocre score into a good one.

WGC lost four wickets for 35 runs opening up, before Jayesh Mankani and Philip Olivier doubled the score.

Then Dolan and Ian Tanner nudged the total along to 131-7 before Joshi took centre stage.

The home side then began to ooze confidence with the bat, and the ball was struck all over and out of Welwyn Playing Fields.

Tanner with 39, Ian Fitzgerald and Saad Shaukat all helped, but Joshi's 83 from about 35 balls was the highlight.

Broxbourne also got off to a bad start as Tanner and Joshi repeated their batting heroics with the ball.

In the end they chased the runs to the end, but Shaukat's pace ripped out the tail with the visitors 22 runs short.

Shaukat topped the bowling with figures of 4-66, but there was no doubt that Joshi deserved his man-of-the-match accolade for a tremendous all-round performance.

WGC took 30 points from the game, with their opponents going home with 15.
