THERE were mixed fortunes for two Datchworth Bowls Club teams in the league last week.

Their Welwyn Hatfield Bowls League Blue team were at home to the Beehive and lost the match.

Peter Large, Joe Barsdell and skip Steve Arnold only won one end by the halfway stage, but managed to get that up to five by the finish.

That was nowhere near enough as they were easily beaten 23-7.

June and Jim Russell and skip Jeff Nash were 7-0 down after the fifth end and still down 15-14 after the 15th end, but then won the next three to claim a 20-15 victory.

The overall score ended up being 38-27 in the Beehive's favour.

The East Herts Bowls League Datchworth Gold team had success away to Amwell Rotary.

David Thompson, Tom Power and skip Steve Chamberlain comfortably won 30-8.

Jim Whittle, Phil Fox and skip Clive Hodson-Smith did well to come from 9-0 down after six ends to get within three shots of their opposition at 13-10 down after 14 ends, but lost 19-11 at the end.
