Jamaica’s current two-time Olympic Games 100m gold medal winner Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was in Welwyn Garden City today (Thursday) ahead of this weekend’s London Anniversary Games.
The 29-year-old, who is looking for an historic third consecutive title at Rio 2016, as is fellow Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt in the men’s 100m, visited the town’s Grace Foods headquarters for whom she is a brand ambassador.
Fraser-Pryce has been nursing a toe injury this season and will not compete in the 200m in Brazil in order to focus on the 100m, she is also in the 4x100m relay squad.
Speaking to the Welwyn Hatfield Times, Fraser-Pryce, said: “Preparations [for the Olympic Games] are what they are, considering the year I have had so far it’s going great.
“I still have these two races to do on Saturday so I’m looking forward to that.
“I’m still training and very optimistic, very confident and just fearless and looking forward to a great championship.”
Of the opportunity of winning a third consecutive 100m Olympic gold, she added: “It has never been done before, it would be amazing, incredible, but right now I’m just more focussed on the journey and the process of getting there [into the final].”
