A tremendous all round team performance saw Potters Bar Town cruise to a 3-1 victory at Barton Rovers; their first win first since November.

After four consecutive draws and improving performances Bar finally converted a battling team effort into all three points.

The game started brightly for The Scholars as a cross from Ashley Harrison-Barker found Evandro Delgado who sidefooted wide.

Delgado was involved again moments later heading on a Ben Bowditch cross for James Ewington to fire wide. Then Cole Penny saw his shot fly over the top.

The Bar defence was boosted by another recent arrival, Tayo Davies-Coker, playing alongside player-manager Jack Friend.

With injuries to regular left-back Matt Clifford, Sonny Feltwell was promoted from the U18s and given his first start.

The defence though, was almost breached in the 35th minute as striker Rob Hastings found himself through on goal but was thwarted by a left handed save by keeper Mike Underwood.

Delgado continued to cause problems for Rovers, beating his defender before shooting wide as the Scholars pressed Barton with their own brand of neat quick passing.

The hard working Tom Laxton saw two long range efforts go begging and Josh Hutchinson, in a new role up front, had a couple of instant shots go the wrong side of the bar.

The second half saw the Scholars take control of the game.

On 58 minutes a corner on Barton’s right was cleared but only as far as Penny on the right.

He floated a cross back into the penalty area where Friend headed across the keeper and into the net.

Just 15 minutes later another surging Scholars attack had Feltwell ping a ball into the box from the left, Delgado got a touch, which came back off the post and Hutchinson tucked it away to make it 2-0.

Just five minutes later a handball in the box gave Bar a penalty which Hutchinson struck home to complete his brace for the afternoon.

Bar relaxed and immediately Barton went up the left hand side and hit a cross come shot which Friend diverted into his own net.

However, the Scholars ran out worthy winners and the away fans were delighted with the victory and the manner in which it was achieved. Man of the match went to Davies-Coker.
