THE 2007 School Team of the Year upset the odds to reach the final of the county Under-13 cricket competition last summer.

Monk's Walk claimed the scalps of Dame Alice Owen's, Verulam, Heath Mount Prep and Edge Grove Prep - all away from home - en route to the final against Haberdashers' Aske's. That ensured they became the first cricket team from Monk's Walk to reach a county cricket final in a number of years.

Perhaps the team's most dramatic victory came in the semi-final when they were forced to travel to Edge Grove, Aldenham, to take part in a 'bowl off' due to the poor conditions meaning the match itself couldn't take place.

However, the Monk's Walk boys managed to stay calm under pressure in cricket's version of a penalty shootout, with each team having five deliveries at the stumps. The WGC school managed to hit the wicket twice through Tom Douglas and Andy Bacon and their opponents achieved the feat just once.

However, Monk's Walk were unable to beat strongly tipped Haberdashers' Aske's in the final at Berkhamsted Collegiate, despite the best efforts of captain Alex Chalker and Andy Godbold with the bat.
