There were some excellent results by the Herts Phoenix young athletes who competed at the home of cross-country at Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead Heath.

As always in the SEAA Cross-Country Championships, athletes start at the bottom of the long hill leading away from the Lido ascending over the undulating course towards Kenwood.

They then make their way back down the long sweeping hill before turning sharply to the finish.

The first race of the day, for the Under-15 boys, provided an exciting finish between training mates Nicholas Doyle and Liam Dee finishing 10th and 13th respectively.

The Under-13 boys’ race witnessed an excellent run by the younger Dee brother, Jamie.

Having contested the leading position throughout the entire race he hung on to finish in third place just four seconds behind the eventual winner. Emily Ruane ran strongly to finish in 20th place in the Under-15 girls’ race.

Edward Shepherd also ran well to come home in 37th place in the Under-17 men’s race.

These athletes and many of their club-mates will be competing again on Saturday in the Herts Schools Cross-Country Championships at Verulamium Park, St Albans.
