Herts Mavericks head coach wants home crowd to be eighth lady in Thunder Superleague showdown

Sam Bird is hoping the raucous Herts Sports Village crowd can help her side defend their 100 per cent winning 2016 Netball Superleague start to the season against fellow unbeaten outfit Manchester Thunder tomorrow night (Saturday).
The two franchises meet having both won their opening four games of the new season.
Mavericks won the pair’s previous meeting, 48-41 in last season’s Superleague semi-final, but with both teams having undergone off-season makeovers, the result is again too close to call.
The hosts have seen off Celtic Dragons, Loughborough Lightning, Team Northumbria and last time out, Yorkshire Jets, while Thunder have beaten the same opposition minus Jets. Team Bath, currently fourth, provided the Northerners with their third win of the campaign.
Mavericks head coach Bird said, “Our players and coaches thrive on matches like this one.
“We know our home support will give us an edge and we are looking forward to a great match and a great performance by our squad.”
First Centre Pass is at 6.30 and Mavericks’ youth team are in action against Thunder at 4.30 so if you have tickets make sure you make it for the early game.
The club will also be supporting the #net10forlife campaign in aid of Cancer Research UK with pink laces on sale so show your support for this fantastic cause.
