Herts boys just pip Essex rivals

HERTS' Under-18 boys defeated near neighbours Essex U18s in a match at Redbourn last Monday.

In the foursomes, there were victories for the pairings of Sam Claridge and Glen Portelli, Tom Cutting and Marcus Fox and Bradley Clarke and George Hewitt.

Luke Colgate and Callum Shinkwin, and Andrew Griffiths and Chris Mach halved their matches for Herts to take a 4-2 lead going into the afternoon singles.

However, the Essex side fought back in the singles matches, securing a 6-6 draw.

Herts successes came from Sam Claridge, Luke Colgate, Chris Mach, Callum Shinkwin, Marcus Fox and George Hewitt, who won his match by one hole to secure the home county the victory overall with a score of 10 points to eight.
