Sam Bird is confident her side can immediately bounce back from their first Netball Superleague defeat to Manchester Thunder on Saturday by beating third-placed Team Bath on the road tonight (Monday).

Herts Mavericks narrowly led at the break against Thunder, now the only unbeaten side in the division, but were brushed aside in the second period, succumbing to a 57-48 loss.

Bath convincingly saw off joint bottom side Celtic Dragons at the weekend to move level on points with the University of Hertfordshire-based side but head coach Bird feels her side will have enough to get over the line at the Sports Training Village.

Speaking after Saturday’s defeat, Bird told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “I pretty much know what I’m going to do [against Team Bath].

“I’m pretty confident about what I’m going to put out on the night so I don’t think we’ll have to worry too much about Bath. We’re going there nice and confident.”

Having beaten the bottom four franchises in a promising start to the 2016 campaign, Mavericks knew a seven-day run of games against leaders Thunder, improving Bath and last season’s champions Surrey Storm were serve as much stiffer propositions.

She continued: “It’s a big week for us. That’s fine though because we’re all ready for that.

“You all want tough games in order to develop and we know we’ll have to meet the challenge.”
