HERTS diver Hayley Sage took gold in the women's 3m synchronised event at the British Championships in Manchester at the weekend.

Sage and her diving partner Tandi Gerrard never looked threatened and performed consistently to finish with a score of 300.90.

This total was a real achievement as it is only the second time a British pair have gone over the 300 mark.

Sage, who grew up in Hertford, was the Welwyn Hatfield Sports Person of the Year in 2005 as she rose to prominence with the Beaumont Diving Academy and she collected a bronze medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia.

The duo will now go on to the FINA Diving World Cup in Beijing next month and try to qualify Britain for the 2008 Olympics in August.

Speaking on behalf of the pair, Gerrard said: "It just shows what we're capable of given a good preparation.

"We were very well prepared which gave us a massive lift and it all felt very positive.

"I'm very excited about Beijing next month.

"It's a big task for us to qualify for the Olympics but we're in great shape, which we proved today, so anything is possible.
