LEWIS Hamilton got today's Turkish Grand Prix off to a dream start in Istanbul.

The 23-year-old Herts driver overtook Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team-mate Heikki Kovalainen in the opening seconds of the race.

Starting from third on the grid, Hamilton was ahead of his Finnish colleague before turn one and into second place behind Ferrari's pole-sitter Felipe Massa.

An accident further down the field at the first turn brought the safety car out on lap one.

Massa leads the race after five of the 58 laps from Hamilton in second, with BMW's Robert Kubica in third and reigning world champion Kimi Raikkonen back in fourth.
