LEWIS Hamilton has finished third in the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix.

The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver from Herts took the third step on the podium from the sport's first night race.

The 23-year-old Formula 1 hero from Herts crossed the finish line behind Renault's two-time world champion Fernando Alonso and Williams' Nico Rosberg.

Hamilton's third place and six points extended his lead in the World Drivers' Championship to seven over Ferrari's Felipe Massa.

Brazilian Massa, who started on pole, finished empty-handed after crossing the line 13th following a disastrous first pit stop.

He pulled away with the fuel hose still attached and subsequently was hit with a drive-through penalty by race stewards.

Ferrari also finished the race pointless in the constructors' championship after Kimi Raikkonen crashed out in the closing laps whilst running fifth.

McLaren, meanwhile, now top both competitions after leapfrogging Ferrari in the constructors' standings.
