LEWIS Hamilton's hopes of winning the Hungarian Grand Prix have been punctured by tyre trouble.

He ran wide with 29 laps to go with a worn out front tyre and had to limp round to the pits for fresh rubber.

The McLaren Mercedes driver dropped from second to 11th as a result of his emergency stop.

Hamilton was chasing Ferrari's Felipe Massa for the lead at the Hungaroring when disaster struck.

It is now damage limitation for the 23-year-old Formula 1 star from Herts, who faces a real fight to claim any points from the race.

He is now on the super soft tyres with 27 laps remaining.

If Massa takes the chequered flag, he will regain the lead in the World Drivers' Championship ahead of Hamilton.
