LEWIS Hamilton is leading today's Monaco Grand Prix on a rainy afternoon in Monte Carlo.

After hitting the barriers early on, resulting in an unscheduled stop for tyres after only six laps, Hamilton is now race leader and the fastest man out on the track.

The 23-year-old McLaren driver's main challengers, Ferrari's Felipe Massa and BMW rival Robert Kubica, have both just made stops, leaving Hamilton in pole position to take the chequered flag following an eventful race.

He is currently two seconds quicker per lap than both Massa and Kubica as he tries to eke out enough of an advantage before his next crucial pit stop for tyres and fuel.

With 42 of the 78 scheduled laps gone, Tewin racer Hamilton is 23 seconds clear of Massa.
