THE AUSTRALIAN Grand Prix will take place in Melbourne for the 13 consecutive time this Sunday.

With a length of 5.303km, Albert Park is the eighth longest on the 18 circuit calendar.

Here, Lewis Hamilton gives us his opinion of the track prior to the season opener.

The McLaren driver said: "As a circuit Albert Park is quite difficult. It is a kind of street circuit. However, the tarmac is smooth so it is nice to drive, and represents a great challenge.

"I am really into street circuits and even though Albert Park is much longer than Monaco, it has many of the features typical to this track."

The first corner is somewhat notorious at Albert Park. Here's what Lewis thinks of it.

"The first corner is quite a difficult one. It is a third gear corner, so is reasonably fast.

"With everyone rushing down there you have to take extra care."

With all the drivers eager to start the season with a bang, Lewis gives us an insight into where he thinks the race could be won or lost.

"The interesting thing about Albert Park is its twisty nature and the first couple of sectors seem quite tricky, especially as the grip levels are low.

"However, in terms of getting the perfect lap it is the last sector that is key.

"If you get it right you can make up a lot of time."

And what does Lewis think of starting the season Down Under? He said: "I think Melbourne is a great place to start the season.

"Everyone is really friendly and the fans are excited about Formula One and very welcoming."

With just days to go, British fans will be hoping Lewis can master the track, and improve upon his third place finish in 2007.

An opening day victory would set up the hope that the Hertfordshire speedster can indeed win the World Championship this season.
