RIDER David Scott braved the rain to set the fastest time in the Welwyn Wheelers evening 10 mile time trial.

Against nine other competitors, and the elements, Scott clocked 23 minutes 46 seconds.

His time was the fastest of the event held on the Hertford-Cole Green course.

This takes Scott into second place in the 15 week series.

He is behind current leader Adrian Trott with two more events to be run to complete the series.

Another important milestone was reached this week when the Gosling club's membership reached 150 for the year.

This is the highest total membership in the club's 60 year history.

Some of the Welwyn youth riders are off to South Wales for the National Youth Championships.

They have already visited the Newport Velodrome four times this season to gain valuable training experience on the indoor 250m track.

The prestigious competition runs from Sunday (August 17) until next Friday (August 22).
