TWO bowls associations collided on Sunday when the St Albans & District team faced their Watford counterparts.

And there was joy for St Albans president Alan Brittain, who led his team to their first win of the 2008 outdoor season.

The St Albans & District BA bowlers beat Watford & District BA at the Herts club by 103 shots to 68 to retain the Challenge Shield contested annually by the two organisations.

The winning margin of 35 shots and by 3.5 rinks to 1.5 was particularly satisfying for the St Albans president.

Alan Brittain also features in the highest rink alongside Paul Castle, Ron Golden and Roy Edwards. They won 30-10.

Andy Scholes won his Colts badge and David Waters his District badge.

Tuesday's Shield match against Shire Park BC was the District side's first visit to the Tewin club and provided excellent bowling on a super green against very good opponents.

The four rinks all were all won by Shire Park, who took the match by 97 shots to 65.

The best rinks for the visitors were Peter Stokes, president Alan Brittain, Chas Prior and Derek Batchelor, who lost 25-22, and Rob Newby, Keith Price, John Taylor and Terry Barker, who were beaten 19-16.
