Gosling’s Aljaz Bedene’s recent good run hit a temporary snag as he failed to reach the first round proper at the ATP Zagreb event.

The Slovenian, who reached the first round of the Australian Open two weeks ago, losing to eventual winner Novak Djokovic, beat his fellow countryman Grega Zemlja 6-3, 6-3 to advance to round two of qualifying.

However, his short run in Croatia was to come to an end after losing in straight sets to Belarusian Uladzimir Ignatik.

Bedene told social media site Twitter: “I guess after 4 years playing at the Zagreb tournament I will finally realize this is not the tournament for me. #sigh.”
