Hatfield badminton ace Lavigne Leung came away with two gold and a silver medal in two tournaments over the weekend.

The rising star, aged 12, struck gold in the Essex U15 silver tournament held in Redbridge Sports Centre after beating four opponents in convincing fashion on her way to the singles final by overcoming top seed Romilly Calvert from Yorkshire triumphing 15-11, 15-8 .

In the doubles event, Lavigne, and her partner Emma Goddard from Kent, missed out on adding another gold medal when they narrowly lost 16-14, 15-13 in a nail-biting final to a pair from Herts and Berkshire settling for silver.

Lavigne had gone into this tournament on a high having scooped the mixed doubles title a day earlier winning gold in the U14 Hertfordshire bronze tournament held in Stevenage with her partner Samuel Baker from Surrey.

It was a great start to the year for the young talented U14 Herts county top seed.
