GARDEN City Runners showed no signs of surrendering their grip on the Herts and North London Sunday Cross-Country League crown in the last race of the series in Watford.

The WGC club took home the first men's, women's, vet men's and vet ladies' titles, plus the overall team trophy.

GCR won the combined event for the fifth season in a row and gained their fourth consecutive clean sweep in all team categories.

As well as their success in the team events, GCR took plaudits in the individual series standings.

Caroline Hale comfortably won the women's 35 prize, while unbeatable Katherine Philp was in a class of her own as top under 35 lady with five first places out of five races.

Catrina Niklaus missed out on third place by a single point.

Veronica Shadbolt was first in the W45 and Joy Allen a close second in the W55 category.

For the men, Steve Livingstone was narrowly beaten into third place in his final year as an MV40 category.

Dave Edwards finished comfortably second MV50 category and Dennis Draper took second MV70.

It was a fitting end to another splendid season for GCR and the club can look forward with confidence to prestigious events such as the Southern and National 12-stage Road Relays in April.
