Garden City Runners’ stalwart George Woods was presented with an achievement award by the Sunday Cross Country League in recognition of the completion of his fourth season and 19th race as an 80 plus athlete.

As the cross country season came to a controversial close, the overall winners of the league for the 2014 season were Trent Park Running Club.

The fifth and final event took place at Cassiobury Park in Watford on a beautiful sunny morning.

The course was not too badly affected by the recent weather apart from a few trees blocking the route but nothing that couldn’t be jumped over.

However, due to a marshalling issue, apart from the first 20 runners, most of those behind followed an incorrect route.

The league organisers decided that the run should be declared null and void so the scoring was taken from the four previous races.

Garden City Runners did not win any other team or individual awards this year.
