A carnival atmosphere has been promised for what organisers are calling the “biggest” Welwyn 10K ever.

It will be the fifth running of the race which will be a key component of the Welwyn Festival.

Held on June 24 and organised by Garden City Runners, as many as 750 runners will congregate at Singlers Marsh before tackling a scenic circular road course through the town and neighbouring villages.

The event also incorporates a 2K fun run with team prizes for Welwyn Hatfield schools.

Race director Craig Stephenson said: “Last year there was an entry of 675, and so in view of the event’s popularity we decided to increase it this year.

“There will be a special commemorative medal, as well as a T-Shirt for all finishers.

“The design for both draws heavily on a defining point in the history of Welwyn.”

He also thanked key sponsors HRJ Foreman Laws and Bellway, who have been supporting the event for four and two years respectively.
