And Michael Tandy chose Newport as the location for his first ever 26-miler, which he finished in a commendable three hours 46 minutes 55 seconds.

St Edmund’s College & Prep School in Ware was the venue for a 5K and 10K race with Tom Rogers (53:32), Shena Lancaster (58:26) and Melanie King (59:15) doing the 10K while Terry Tristram finished the 5K in 34:22, his first official race and medal.

Elaine Giles and Kath Evans were in Chelmsford for the Viper Trail 15 mile race, a mainly off-road run with a few sections on the open road where runners self-navigate.

Evans praised Giles’ “fab navigational skills” as the pair managed not to do too many extra miles. They finished together in 3:12:30.

Ali Christie ran the scenic Blenheim 7K around the trails and paths of Blenheim Palace, finishing in 55:08.
