A CONSIDERABLY under-strength WGC XI slipped to first defeat of the season against Home Counties Premier Division champions High Wycombe at Digswell Park on Saturday.

Wycombe's Matt Eyles proved to be the nemesis making a century knock after the visitors were asked to open the batting.

Jamie Southgate, who was named man-of-the-match, took four wickets for 102 runs as High Wycombe closed on 266-8.

In reply WGC made 228 for 10 to lose the match by 38 runs.

Southgate also shone with the bat, making a splendid 58 from 97 balls.
