A VINTAGE bowling display from Steve Stroomer secured Datchworth victory against Holtwhites Trinibis on Saturday.

Club stalwart Stroomer took yet another five-wicket haul as Datchworth beat the visitors to The Green by 24 runs.

Saturday's victory lifted the village club up to third in the Saracens Herts League Division Five table.

After being asked to bat first, Datchworth were struggling on 18-4 with only Darren Croucher (22) looking comfortable against the fiery opening attack of Younis and Reis.

Datchworth recovered to 71-6 and then Tom Bennett (26) and Rob Nash (17) lifted the score to 104.

Will Nash chipped in with an unbeaten 14 not out and Steve Bottomley 28 as the last pair put on 35 to take the home side to 155.

Holtwhites, who started the day above Datchworth in the table, started the chase steadily enough.

But breakthrough wickets from Alex Akers (2-20) and Steve Bottomley (2-40) exposed the middle order. Stroomer then took four wickets in three consecutive overs to leave the visitors reeling.

Stroomer eventually finished with 5-37 before Bottomley finished the match with Enfield club Trinibis all out for 131.

Another 30 points puts the villagers in third spot in the table, with promotion becoming achievable.
