MAVERICKS crushed Welsh side Celtic Dragons by a massive 40 points as they ran out easy 61-21 winners in their Superleague encounter on Saturday.

For the second week running Mavericks' England international shooter Louisa Brownfield led the scoring with 33 goals from 41 attempts.

Brownfield and England A goal attack Gemma Wiseman were paired up for the first time this season for the Hatfield-based side as they comfortably ran out victors.

Mavericks stamped their authority on the match early on and continued through the entire meeting.

They raced into a 17-5 first-quarter lead, which was doubled to 34-10 by half-time.

It was much the same in the third quarter as Mavericks extended their advantage to 49-15.

A further 12 home goals in the final period with six in reply for Dragons took the final score to 61-21.

The visitors struggled to cope with the home side, who with England captain Amanda Newton, Naomi Siddall, Clare Elsley and Karen Atkinson ran the show in the middle of the court.

Dragons were unable to match their pace, power and ability to feed the ball to the shooters.

As well as Brownfield's 33 goal-haul, Wiseman added 10 from 14 and fellow England A star Monique Wood shot 18.

Mavericks are now fourth in the division with 12 points from 10 games.

The Herts Sports Village side need to make sure they finish in the top four to qualify for the end of season play-offs.

Mavericks travel to Liverpool on Saturday to take on bottom of the division side Northern Thunder in the Superleague.

Prior to the game at the Herts Sports Village on Saturday, it was announced that The Galleria in Hatfield are new Mavericks Superleague franchise sponsors.
