WGC Boxing Club held its second live show at the Gosling Sports Park on Saturday and it was yet again a huge success, writes John Hutchinson.

Over 750 people attended the fight-fest, which included 16 bouts, 12 of them involving WGC fighters.

This followed up the success of the club's first show for over 30 years back in October 2008.

WGC club coach Martin Calvert said: "It was another good night of boxing action, and I was delighted to see how well attended it was.

"It was a success, and now we are going to look towards working on holding a dinner show."

There were some great performances on the night from the home boxers.

Matt Young stood out for his strength and enthusaism in a unanimous points victory against Fulbourn & District boxer A Sartini. And the improving Tom Cox looked sharp in his unanimous points win against Kings Lynn's J Kirby.

Liam Mussard, Jamie Smith and George Riley will perhaps feel they had done enough for victory against their respective opponents. However, along with a largely bemused crowd, they watched on as their opponents' arms were raised.

Clayton Kentsley perhaps rivalled Matt Young for 'performance of the night' when he stopped his opponent in the second.

Undoubtedly a crowd favourite, it was only a matter of time before John's corner threw the towel in. The first round saw Kentsley come out all guns blazing with fast combinations and penetrating jabs.

This continued into the second, and with no chance of anything but a Kentsley win by points or stoppage, John's corner pulled their fighter out.

James Mason also shone, as the doctor intervened to halt his fight with Tottenham & Enfield hitter K Barnes.

Other results saw brothers Frankie and Albert Hobden lose out on points, while Cameron Clarke can be proud of a battling defeat to M Eisa.

Daniel Walker-Mitchell and Dan Regis also both lost out on points decisions.
