DE HAVILLAND Bowls Club opened its green with a gala at the start of their 72nd season.

The club, now situated close to the University's Club de Havilland, was founded in 1937 and is still going strong. It hopes to still be going strong in another 70 years.

This confidence in the future is founded on an expanding membership, excellent support from the University of Herts and Club de Havilland, along with a much appreciated grant from Welwyn Hatfield District Council.

The latter was used to thoroughly renovate ageing equipment and, along with new members with excellent green keeping skills, has provided the foundation upon which to base their confidence in the future.

The club held a new members' open day on May 3 which attracted a great many potential new players .

The club is keen to expand and hope to attract new players throughout the coming season.
