Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton’s 2015 Mercedes car, the F1 W06 Hybrid, will be officially unveiled in Spain today (Sunday).

The Mercedes AMG Petronas team will formally reveal the challenger the 30-year-old F1 racer from Hertfordshire will drive this season before running commences on the opening day of winter testing in Jerez.

After an intensive winter of development, two-time world champion Hamilton and Silver Arrows colleague Nico Rosberg took the 2015 spec Mercedes for a spin around Silverstone on Thursday during a promotional event.

However, the Mercedes Formula One team will officially unveil the F1 W06 Hybrid to the press and public at the Circuito de Jerez, in Spain, this morning.

The seventh Silver Arrow to compete in the Formula One World Championship will then take to the track at the hands of Rosberg, last season’s championship runner-up.

BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2014 Hamilton will drive on days two and four in Jerez.

Ahead of the car launch, Toto Wolff, head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, said: “The workload this winter has been as great as ever.

“Where last year we were preparing for an all-new formula of racing, we are now faced with the big challenge of making the next step in our development.

“We know that we went into the winter with a target on our backs for the other teams – and we are certain that our rivals will be competitive from the opening race in Melbourne.

“So we have to focus on every detail if we want to build any advantage this year and that is what we have done.”

Wolff added: “This is an exciting time of year as our collective efforts all come together in the new car.

“Everybody in Brackley, Brixworth and Stuttgart has put a great amount of effort into creating the latest Silver Arrow and I thank them for their efforts so far.

“We are excited to see how the car performs when it begins running.”
