Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton has completed his first laps in the 2016 Mercedes-Benz challenger.

The Mercedes AMG Petronas team’s World Championship contender, the Mercedes-Benz F1 W07 Hybrid, took to the track for the first time today (Friday) at Silverstone.

Three-time world F1 champion Hamilton and Mercedes colleague Nico Rosberg both got behind the wheel of the team’s 2016 specification Formula One car during a promotional event.

The F1 W07 Hybrid, powered by the PU106C Hybrid Power Unit, first departed the garage at 10.15am on a cold but clear day at the Northamptonshire circuit.

Driven first by Rosberg, then Hertfordshire-born Hamilton, the car completed a total of 98.2km.

The Silver Arrows team will now ready the F1 W07 Hybrid for its public track debut at the opening pre-season test of the 2016 Formula One season in Barcelona on Monday, February 22.

The car will be officially revealed to the world’s media before running starts on the first day of winter testing in Spain.
