Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton was back on track in Barcelona today (Thursday) after presenting an award to Taylor Swift at last night's BRITs.
The 30-year-old Mercedes F1 racing driver from Hertfordshire joined Ellie Goulding on stage at The 02 in London to present Taylor Swift with her Best International Female Solo Artist trophy.
Following testing in Spain today, Hamilton tweeted a picture of the couple, saying: “At the BRITS with my extremely talented friend @elliegoulding. What an honour, thank you for having me @britawards”
And after Hamilton had joked about her stunning dress at the BRITs, chart-topper Ellie tweeted: “Myself and @LewisHamilton are good friends and I told him to say my dress looked wedding-y as a bit of bants ...”
Getting back to F1 business in Spain, Hamilton was third fastest on the first day of the final pre-season winter test of 2015 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Hamilton completed nearly laps before technical problems brought Mercedes’ testing for the day to a premature halt.
Today’s schedule consisted of set up analysis in the morning and two-time world champion Hamilton emerged for his first run at 9.05am CET, completing 48 laps before the lunch break.
The Mercedes F1 W06 Hybrid remained in the garage after lunch owing to an MGUK failure.
After suffering a fever during last week’s Barcelona test, Hamilton felt much better behind the wheel today.
He said: “I have a lot more energy. I’m actually going to head back and go for a run now as I haven’t had much to do this afternoon!
“Of course, we would have liked to have a few more laps today – especially as the sun came out later on.
“But sometimes you have those days. I don’t see it as too much of a negative.
“It’s good that you find these things, whatever issues you might have, and iron them out now.
1 Felipe Massa (Williams) 1:23.500
2 Marcus Ericsson (Sauber) 1:24.276
3 Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) 1:24.881
4 Daniil Kvyat (Red Bull) 1:25.947
5 Romain Grosjean (Lotus) 1:26.177
6 Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari) 1:26.327
7 Carlos Sainz (Toro Rosso) 1:26.962
8 Jenson Button (McLaren) 1:31.479
“It means, hopefully, you won’t find them at the first race.”
Hamilton added: “Testing is always difficult. If you get the whole day in the car, the sun is out and the tyres are working you can make more changes to learn where you want to put the car.
“Naturally, the more you drive the more you feel comfortable – but to be honest in the 50 laps I had today I felt ready to go.
“I had a positive feeling in the car and it was good to get the tyres working.
“I’ve got one more day to now hopefully have a clean run and really pinpoint where I want to put the car for the first race.”
