A BATTLING performance wasn't enough to stop Sherrardswood Yellows Under-10s from losing 1-0 on a heavy pitch against Wheathampstead Sharks.

Yellows made their usual bright start and were well on top in the opening exchanges on Saturday.

Elis Woodford worked well up front and Reggie Ross drove from midfield.

The first half was played almost entirely in the middle of the park with Yellows goalkeeper Harry Rember rarely called on.

Yellows came out for the second half with extra drive and Ross made two runs in the opening minutes which tested the Sharks keeper.

Rember made a great save, but the rebound was followed up to make it 1-0 to Wheathampstead.

Yellows kept battling on and man of the match Charlie Hayne looked to have levelled the scores, but the keeper's fingertips touched the ball against the post.

Regan Still also went close but Wheathampstead held on with Yellows still attacking to the end.
