LEMSFORD followed up their draw with league leaders Baldock Town by taking all three points from fellow promotion hopefuls Chipperfield Corinthians on Saturday.
Craig Attfield's men started the Herts Senior County League Division One game the brighter and it was their fast start that set them up for the victory.
Danny Pickett's early free-kick was knocked into the box and Simon Chang headed the ball across the area, causing confusion in the Chipperfield defence. David Williams, in for the injured James Chang, capitalised on the home side's static defending to sneak in and steer Lemsford into a 1-0 lead.
The early goal seemed to be a shock to the system of third-placed Chipperfield and they struggled to get out of their own half in a first period that Lemsford dominated.
The visitors' second goal was produced by Matt Jones out of absolutely nothing.
A hopeful long ball from Peter Cross was headed away by a Chipperfield defender and there didn't seem to be much danger as the ball dropped to Jones almost 35 yards from goal.
However, the striker had other ideas. He smashed the ball which looped into the top corner catching everyone, including his team-mates, by surprise and giving his side a 2-0 cushion.
The away side didn't rest on their laurels and continued to pepper the Chipperfield goal with shots flying in from Chris Jones, Matt Harris and Kevin Cory.
At the other end, Lemsford keeper Russel Owen, in for the injured Dennis Fettus, had a quiet first half.
The second half continued in a similar vein and Owen again had very little to do, only making one notable save as the Lemsford defence of Peter Cross, Chang, Steve Cross and Cory held firm.
Midfield duo Pickett and Williams worked tirelessly in midfield for Lemsford, with Harris and Chris Jones both also putting the hard work in.
The away side continued to press forward, even though they lost two of their offensive players, Matt Jones and David Morris, to injury at half-time. Nick Roll and Glen Martin were the replacements.
Roll's hard work kept the Chipperfield defence on their toes and he linked up with his strike partner Chris Jones.
Lemsford's continued dominance paid off when they added a third courtesy of a header from Williams.
It was the midfielder's first start of the season and his fourth goal since signing in January.
Attfield's side now sit fifth, five points behind Chipperfield, who occupy the final promotion spot.
They face North Mymms at Welwyn Playing Fields this Saturday at 3pm.
* Lemsford's second string claimed their third victory in a row to give themselves a chance of survival in the Herts Senior County League Reserve Division One.
They beat Buntingford Town 3-1 with goals from Savas Caliskan, Bradley Anderson and Kevin Summers.
Stuart Morrison's side are three points above the relegation zone with seven games still to play.
