Welwyn Garden City paraded five new signings and a quartet of trialists as they got their 2018-19 season underway at Wingate & Finchley.

The Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division champions will play in the Southern League East Division next season, one step below their hosts on Saturday.

And although they lost 4-0, manager Adam Fisher will be pleased with the run-out.

He handed games to new boys Dan Green, Adam Hunt, Lee Close, Brett O’Connor and Joe Bennett and saw the new boys fit in well with his championship-winning squad.

Wingate scored twice in both halves but Bennett had one cleared off the line and both Nick Elliott and Dan Bond forced the keeper into two saves.

Welwyn continued their build-up to the new season with a trip to Crawley Green last night (Tuesday) before going to London Colney on Saturday.

Their Southern League fixtures are out on Thursday.
