FA Youth Cup: Heartbroken Welwyn Garden City bow out to two late Andover Town goals

Two goals in the second period of extra-time sent a heartbroken Welwyn Garden City out of the FA Youth Cup to Andover Town.
The evenly-matched sides had battled to a 1-1 stalemate at the end of 90 minutes and the first 15 minutes in the added-on time also failed to separate them.
But then the Hampshire visitors struck a minute after the kick-off and a penalty two minutes from time, awarded after Lamin Bangura had illegally stopped an Andover breakaway, hammered the final nail in the coffin.
The devastation was obvious on the faces of the young Welwyn side and it will now be a test of their mental fortitude as they look to recover from the blow.
But they can take heart from the fact that they probably should have secured their passage earlier and but for a bit of luck and better composure, they would have done.
But while the run may be over, a long and prosperous career for some beckons and Citizens’ fans will watch on with interest, hoping some get to star on the Herns Lane pitch at senior level.
Aaron Petch starred down the left flank and Billy Hodgkins, who made his debut in the City first team just two days earlier, was a commanding presence throughout.
Coree Palfrey blossomed into the game late on and Gustavo Periera grabbed their equaliser at the end of the first half.
