The Royals had been without a competitive game for two weeks and looked a little rusty in the early stages of the Mid Herts Rural Minor League Cup clash.

Chars had an extremely quick striker who they looked to get the ball to quickly.

Fortunately for Welwyn Luca Fautrero-Sayer and Tom Saunders were equal to the task and slowly and surely the hosts turned the tide.

Garrett opened the scoring after he burst through the Chars defence and drilled a low shot past the keeper at the near post.

And Welwyn started to pick up the pace in the second half.

It took a penalty 10 minutes from time before they added a second, Sugg converting with confidence, and Chars’ bad day finished with a player sent off for dissent.

Pegasus will go to Broxbourne Borough in the next round.
