Welwyn Pegasus U14 Royals show off their trophies after winning the Hatfield Football Tournament.

Welwyn Pegasus U14 Royals won the Hatfield Youth Tournament in some style on Sunday morning.

The success was a surprise to many as the team were invited to the Hatfield Tournament at the last minute as a result of other sides dropping out.

And although Pegasus took time to hit their stride, they soon took full advantage of the kind invitation.

They came through the group stage of the competition, scoring seven goals without conceding, defenders Fin Wheeler and Luke Laurence showed their goal-scoring ability with a goal each.

The semi-final paired the Royals with MMM Futsal and a stunning strike from Josh Staddon saw them through.

It could have been more though but Harry Sugg, Alex Manhood and Jack Wiltshire were all just off target with their efforts.

There was some excellent football in the final, with the quick passing and clever movement threatening to overwhelm their opponents.

However, it was a rare goal from Luca Fautrero-Sayer and the fourth of the tournament for Sugg that brought the trophy.

Welwyn Pegasus Royals manager Steve Manhood praised all the players on their performance and congratulated the team on reaching the final of the three tournaments they have entered.

The first at Ware Youth saw them as runners-up while the second at Panshanger also brought the crown.
