WGC's Joel Norris wearing the number 10 jersey, blasts home this penalty

A Joel Norris hat-trick helped Welwyn Garden City consolidate their nine-point lead over Bedford FC at the top of Spartan South Midlands League Division One after a routine 4-1 win over Buckingham Athletic last Saturday.

Norris got the ball rolling after 17 minutes, finishing from close range and shortly after it was two as Marc Arnott hooked the ball over keeper Andy Hammond with ease.

Another poacher’s effort from Norris made it three moments before half-time, with the game looking beyond the visitors.

However, helped by WGC complacency, Buckingham grabbed a goal back through Scott Latham for 3-1.

The hosts moved up the gears again and were awarded a penalty for an innocuous Adam Bone challenge on subsitute Yasin Boodhoo.

For the third time in a row, Sean Brettell saw his spot kick saved.

WGC were to get a fourth though via the same route.

A less clear-cut appeal for a second foul in the penalty box, this time on Jason Caswell, reared results, with referee Saggers awarding another penalty.

Brettell stood back to allow Norris to stroke home and complete his treble.
