Welwyn Garden City Football Club took time out of their charge towards the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division title and promotion to spend part of Easter Monday at the Lister Hospital.
Manager Adam Fisher along with strikers Ash Kersey and Dan Bond were at the Stevenage hospital to give out Easter eggs and toys on the children’s ward.
Even at this holiday time the ward was packed with children and their parents.
And they were all delighted to receive the gifts at what will be difficult time for all concerned.
The staff too were extremely welcoming and couldn’t thank the trio enough and applauded them for giving up their time.
Citizens’ boss Fisher said: “This is something the club are proud to do.
“We have an Easter party every year at the club and whilst the place is full of kids and parents enjoying themselves it’s important to remember those that haven’t got the same luxury and are battling a range of illnesses in the hospital.
“To see the smiles on theirs and the parents faces makes it worthwhile. Thank you to Ash and Dan as well.”
The ward also holds a special place in Fisher’s heart as his own son was there for four weeks when born back in 2010.
“It’s strange as me and my wife were there for four weeks with our son and it’s just the most horrible time for any parent to go through,” he added.
“The staff there are unbelievable so to give up one hour of our time will go a long way for the children, parents and staff.”
