WELWYN Garden City FC slipped to a disappointing 5-0 defeat at home to Kings Langley on Saturday in the quarter-final of the Herts Senior Centenary Trophy.

Boss Simon Braine had called on his troops to forget about their poor recent form in the league, and concentrate on getting into the final four in the trophy.

However, it appears his pleas fell on deaf ears as the Citizens were comfortably defeated by their fellow South Midlands Division One rivals.

Jack John gave the visitors to Herns Lane the lead after 39 minutes, and in first-half injury-time Chris Mason netted a second.

WGC’s cause wasn’t helped when Tommy Kiernan, pictured below left, was shown a second yellow card and subsequent red, and Langley took full advantage in the second period.

Arturas Simakovas, Steve Noonan and Jimmy Armstrong all scored to seal a big win for Kings Langley.
