Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield Town go head-to-head in a top of the table Christmas cracker of a derby clash at Herns Lane on Saturday (3pm).

Adam Fisher’s Citizens lead the SSML Division One table by two points, and with a game in hand, over Ashley Purser’s Blueboys.

City had enjoyed an impressive 16-match unbeaten run in the division, with 15 wins and a draw, until they fell to defeat at home to Codicote last Wednesday.

They got back on track by thumping strugglers Amersham Town 5-0 on Saturday to leap-frog Hatfield and go to the division’s summit.

Hatfield head the short distance to their neighbours on the back of a heavy 5-1 defeat away to Baldock Town on Saturday.

However, with 15 wins from 19, and two draws, they also have enjoyed a fantastic opening half of the season and will be looking to secure three points to regain top spot from their rivals.

As ever, the derby clash is expected to be a tasty affair and with so much at stake in the title chase between the two it is a game not to be missed.
