Cockfosters beat Hampton & Richmond 18-17 on penalties

A football manager from Potters Bar has described his team’s 18-17 penalty shoot-out success as unbelievable.

Dean Barker saw his SSML Premier Division Cockfosters side cause an upset by knocking Ryman League Premier Division leaders Hampton & Richmond Borough out of the Middlesex Senior Charity Cup quarter-finals last night (Tuesday).

The game was tied 1-1 after normal time and went straight to spot-kicks to be decided.

After a marathon shoot-out of 42 penalties, Cockfosters triumphed 18-17.

Barker said: “The shoot out was unbelievable, 42 penalties in total, 21 each and to win 18-17 must have been some sort of record.

“It was a great win for us against the Ryman Premier Division Leaders who contained plenty of ex pros.

“Their coach is Martin Tyler the Sky commentator and he said he hasn’t seen anything like it before.

“I’ve definitely not, but I’m glad we won and have now reached the semi-finals.”
