The Ultimate Football WGC Monday night six-a-side league played the final games of its spring season when League One came to a conclusion.
It was a tense night, with FC Flumpy and Neverbee Athletic going into it level on points at the top of the table.
And both teams rose to the occasion, producing amazing performances.
Neverbee faced a determined Toddlers side who were giving nothing away.
In a tight first half, Neverbee’s team captain and man of the match, Francis Mardlin, gave them a 1-0 advantage before Aaron Casper added a second shortly after the break.
A goal by Toddlers’ Ryan Hennessey set up a tense finale but Neverbee held on to win 2-1.
In the other game, Flumpy went head-to-head with Life’s a P, with the first-half ended level at 1-1, Dan Allison giving Flumpy the lead only for Sam Lucifer to equalise.
But Flumpy surged ahead in the second half with goals from Christian Iszchak and Scott Leger and although Life’s a P pulled one back through Sebastian Galea, it was not enough to stop them winning 3-2 and taking the league crown on goal difference, in one of the tightest title run-ins for a long time.
The other teams in the league played pre-season friendlies.
Litty Commity overcame league newcomers Rag Rovers 6-4 with Litty’s Charlie Lloyd picking up the man of the match award for his hat-trick.
SD & Carlton Cole beat Blackpool 1-0 in a tight game while the same score saw Volvo Selekt edge Smakosze St Albans.
